OK Flux 10.90 is an agglomerated, fluoride basic flux for submerged arc welding of 9% nickel steels, other high alloyed steels and nickel-based alloys, using nickel-based wires. It is primarily used for multi-run welding of thick-section materials. It can be used for single-layer and multi-layer welding of unlimited plate thickness for butt and fillet welds and works very well on DC. The flux gives a good bead shape, good slag detachability and very good weldability in the 2G/PC position.
The low Si addition during welding provides good mechanical properties, particularly good impact toughness. It is a chromium compensating flux, adding manganese and slightly adding nickel. This minimises the risk of hot cracking when welding with Ni-based consumables. LNG storage tanks are welded with OK Flux 10.90 because of their good mechanical properties and, very importantly, the reduction of hot cracking risks. It is also used for welding components of chemical and petrochemical plants, offshore constructions and pressure vessels.
