Optrel Liteflip with e3000X System Parts FAQs

Lenses, seals, connectors, batteries and filters for a flip-up welding helmet used with a powered respirator, and how to pick and look after them.

Which parts of a flip-up powered-respirator helmet wear out and need replacing?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

A flip-up helmet has more moving and wearing parts than a fixed-front one. The outside cover lens takes spatter and scratches first, then the inside cover lens and sweatband, while the face seal and headgear wear with daily use. The hinge or pivot of the flip-up front can loosen or crack, and hose connectors can wear where they are clipped on and off. On the blower side, filters and the battery wear.

Check each part before every shift and replace by condition. Outside cover lenses are changed most often and inside lenses less often, but how often depends on your process, hours worked and the manual, so follow the maker's schedule.

How do I make sure a replacement part fits my helmet and blower unit?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Look at the data plate or label on the helmet, blower and battery, and note the type or part number. Compare it with the parts list in your manual and with any marking on the old part. Many parts list several helmet types they suit, but a lens, seal or hinge for another helmet shape may not fit or seal properly.

Read the product description for the helmet types it names and for notes such as not being suitable with a powered unit. Do not force a part that does not fit easily. If your helmet is an older or newer version, confirm with the maker or ask our team before ordering.

What does the adaptor or connector between the hose and helmet do, and what should I check?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

It joins the breathing hose to the helmet or blower so that filtered air reaches your face. Because all the air passes through it, a worn, cracked or loose connector can leak air, reduce the flow reaching the helmet and trigger the low-airflow alarm.

Before each shift, check that the connector locks as the manual describes, that any seal or O-ring is present and undamaged, and that the hose is not kinked, cracked or trapped. Replace a damaged connector or hose rather than taping it, and use only the connector type your manual lists for your unit.

Why does the face seal matter on a powered helmet, and when do I replace it?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

A powered helmet is loose-fitting. Instead of sealing tightly to your face, it relies on a steady flow of filtered air building pressure inside to keep contaminated air out. The face seal closes the gap around your face and neck and helps hold that pressure. A torn or stretched seal can let air escape and fume in, and can make the blower work harder.

Inspect it every shift and replace it when it is torn, stiff, stretched or hard to keep clean. There is no single interval for every helmet, and heavy use or dirty conditions shorten its life, so follow the replacement advice in your manual.
