Product Details

With a 70 amp rating and a ballpoint pen size, the new MR70 Micro Torch will handle your hard-to-access welding applications.

Clear Pyrex nozzles and a low-profile torch body make the MR70 perfect for the operator to see the weld puddle ensuring a high-quality weld.

45°, 90° and 180° heads are easily interchangeable onto the body and are included in the torch package. The different angled heads all use the same clear Pyrex nozzle eliminating the need for angled nozzles.

The tungsten electrode is easily adjusted with the Tungsten Stick-Out Gauge and Wrench, also included in the torch package. Simply set the gauge to the desired length and tighten the collet with the wrench securing the tungsten electrode. Super Flex® hoses complete the package minimising the weight and pull of the cable assembly when performing intricate TIG welding applications.

CK MR70 Torch Packages FAQs

Answers for buyers choosing a complete small air-cooled micro TIG torch package with a superflex lead.

What is a micro TIG torch, and what is it used for?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

A micro TIG torch is a very small, light air-cooled torch with a slim neck and small head, designed for fine work: thin sheet, small fabrications, instrument and tube work, and joints where a standard torch will not fit. Its size gives you a better view of the weld pool and more precise control in tight spaces.

It is a low-current tool, not a general-purpose torch. For thicker material or long runs at high current, a larger torch, usually with a higher rating, is a better choice. Check the torch rating against the current you plan to weld at.

Why choose an air-cooled torch rather than a water-cooled one?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Air-cooled torches need no cooler unit, water hoses or coolant, so they are simpler to set up, maintain and move around. They suit lower-current and intermittent work, and the maximum current depends on the particular torch.

Water-cooled torches can generally carry higher currents for longer because the coolant removes heat, but they need a separate cooler and extra hoses. For a micro torch used at low current on thin material, air cooling is the usual and practical choice. Check that your intended current and duty cycle fall within the rating on the torch data plate or in the manual.

How long a cable do I need: shorter or longer?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Choose the shortest lead that lets you reach the work comfortably. A longer lead gives you more reach around a bench or fabrication, but it is heavier and has more slack to snag, kink or lie in hot metal. A shorter lead is lighter and tidier, and is often enough for bench-top fine work.

If you move around a large workpiece or weld away from the machine, a longer lead is worth having. Keep it from coiling tightly in use and from sharp bends or rubbing. Our team can help you choose between the lengths listed.

Can this type of torch weld thin material, and what tungsten should I use?icon-minus-redicon-plus-red

Yes, small torches suit thin sheet because you can work at low current with fine control. Thin material burns through easily, so keep the current low, move steadily and ease back if the pool becomes too fluid.

Tungsten diameter should match the current: a smaller diameter makes arc starting easier at very low amperage, while larger sizes suit higher currents. Ceriated or rare-earth types are often chosen for low-current work. Keep the tungsten sharp and clean, and check the maker's current guide for the collet and tungsten sizes your torch accepts.
